Lesson Task – Colour Theory

This week’s lesson task is about colours and how we can express feelings through our work!

  • Having watched the video with Nigel French – describe, in your own words, what each of these colour systems means: RGB and CMYK.
    • RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is for web and screen, it’s the primary colours in the colour wheel. when mixing RGB you get the secondary colours CMYK.
    • CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key) Is for printing. When printing on paper you have the white paper as a backround colour and mixing CMY to get the colour you want and adding Key to make it darker.

Make use of Adobe Colour and develop four different colour schemes. Please hand in screenshots of your schemes

Analogus colours are three colours next to eachother on the colour wheel

Complementary colours are colours on the opposite of the colour wheel that match

Monochromatic colours are all the tones, tints and shade of one hue

Triadic color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel and are quite vibrant

Use a colour photo of your choice and create the following colour effects . You should hand in four separate works of the same photo with the following effects

fluorescent duotone using a Gradient Map Adjustment layer

Split toning of the image

In this picture i tried to completley change the colours of the product and the suroundings to try and learn how colours can change the expression in a picture

Green is a natural and healthy colour but the purple is luxury, power and ambitions

I also made the surroundings a shade of red that symbolise courage and love

Design a book cover for Animal Farm

use analogous colours with a contrasting accent to express disagreement and discontent.

Orange is a colour of success, encouragement and change. Napoleon wanted to lead the animals to freedom but is a corrupt pig and have similar traits to a certain leader in the Soviet Union which is why i used the font «stalinist» to get the message through.
